Response to Coronavirus

From Rev. Carmen Zappi: March 19 — Tuesday evening, in response to the current global health challenge, your Board of Trustees and I met to discuss the current needs of our church family and prayerfully determine how we could best respond to those needs and support you through this unusual time.

In compliance with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the White House and Unity Worldwide Ministries (UWM), we determined to take the following actions:

• There will be no “in-person” Sunday services until further notice. INSTEAD, we will have online services through Facebook Live at 11 a.m. Sunday mornings, beginning this week (March 22). You can view our service by visiting our Facebook Page at that time.

• The Thursday morning Quest Class will be shared via Zoom, beginning tomorrow, 10 a.m.-noon.

• Other online classes, prayer groups and chat groups will also be made available soon.

Additional Actions & Resources

• We will be writing notes and making regular telephone calls to support individuals whom we know do not have internet access.

• Regular office hours will resume next week.

• We are here for you to do anything we can to help make this “unusual time” easier for you. You are not alone. We are available to pray with you and possibly help with other needs, such as picking up grocery items if you are unable to drive. If we can, we will. Just call the church office at (386) 253-4201 or contact us with your prayer request or any other message you wish to share. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

This Could Be Our Finest Hour

Together we are likely to discover many new ways of supporting one another and new ways of reaching the people who need our communities and message now more than ever.

In a recent blog, Gretchen Schmelzer invited us to imagine that this could be our finest hour. Every small act of kindness and support will add up exponentially. She said, “It can only be our finest hour if we work together.” Let us use all of our Unity principles and faith to work together to bless our communities and our world.” Rev. Patricia Bass, UWM Interim CEO.

In love & faith,
Rev. Carmen Zappi

Friday, March 13 — The spread of the virus has increased, and today President Trump declared a national emergency related to the coronavirus. I want to assure you that Unity of Daytona Beach is again actively responding to this situation.

New Actions We Are Taking:

  • Sunday Services for this weekend and the Quest class this coming Thursday are canceled. Going forward we will address whether or not to resume usual services and other activities on a week-by-week basis.
  • Special interest groups will meet at the discretion of group leaders.
  • The office will be closed through March 20.
  • The church will be thoroughly sanitized before services resume.
  • We continue to pray daily for your highest good. We know that God loves and supports us all.
  • We will keep you updated via email and Facebook.
  • Staying informed about public health recommendations and responding accordingly.

We can meet this challenge without fear or panic by focusing on spiritual truths while taking needed actions. Responding from both a spiritual and a human perspective will be most effective in reducing fear and minimizing physical complications.

Prayer

The most important step in meeting any challenge is always prayer. Prayer lifts our consciousness to the truth of God’s presence in the midst of the challenge. By prayerfully affirming this truth we energize the pattern of wholeness in all people.

We invite you to join us in this prayer:

God is boundless Love and Healing Power present everywhere at all times. Divine Life is restoring, healing, and revitalizing our world in this very moment. We let go of all fear and anxiety and affirm that all are safe, healthy, and protected. We bless and give thanks for those who support us in maintaining vibrant radiant health. We express Divine Life in all we think, say, and do. We envision our global family with radiant health, peace of mind, and abundant love. And, so it is

We are praying with you and for you during this time and always.

Take Care

If you feel afraid, take a moment to breathe deeply and affirm God’s loving presence with you. Always go to God with your fears or concerns. That’s soul care. Make wise and loving choices for yourself. Stay home when you can. Take precautions as recommended by CDC. If you experience symptoms of the virus, contact your medical care provider. That’s body care. It is important for us to honor the needs of both body and soul as we meet this challenge.

Ways to Stay Inspired

Listen to podcasts of previous Sunday lessons, read Daily Word and Unity Magazine, request prayer with your chaplain or connect with Unity friends.
